심종인 (Jong-In Shim)
Jong-In Shim received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electronic engineering from Seoul National University, Seoul Korea, and Ph. D. degree in physical electronics from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan, in 1983, 1985, and 1992, respectively. He worked at the Electronics and Telecommunication Research Institute (ETRI) in Korea (1985-1988) and the optoelectronics Research Lab. of NEC in Japan (1992-1994). He was an STA fellow of the AIST, Japan (1996) and guest professors at the TIT, Japan (1999), the Osaka University, Japan (2011), and the UCSB, USA (2002-2003). In 1994, he joined the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Hanyang University, Korea, where he is currently a Professor. He has more than 30 year experiences on design, characterization, fabrication process, and crystal growth based on the LPE and the selective MOVPE for high-performance optoelectronic devices. His earlier works were mainly concerned with dynamic single-mode lasers for high-speed direct modulation as well as coherent tunable lasers for WDM and FDM optical transmission systems. During the last 20 years, he has co-worked with optoelectronic companies for high-performance devices such as laser diodes, light-emitting diodes, waveguide devices, semiconductor optical amplifiers, electroabsorption modulators, photodiodes of PIN and APD types, and high-speed packaging technology. His current interests include optoelectronic devices for general lighting, display, green energy, and optical interconnection. Prof. Shim had served as a general secretary of Optical Society of Korea (OSK) and members of the technical program committees and the steering committees of several international workshops and conferences. Recently, he has served as the President of Society of LED and Solid State Lighting in Korea.
